Wildlife Gardening Volunteers
If you fancy yourself to have a bit of a green thumb, or would like to, why not join our Wildlife Gardening group? This group specialises in growing for wildlife. We grow pollinator friendly species for beds and growing spaces around Bishop’s Castle, specialist plantings for the Going Wild project such as hedge trees and meadow plug plants and help people with their own gardens to improve the site for wildlife. We welcome people of all abilities, and activities may include creation of bird boxes and other habitat throughout the winter months.

Bishop’s Castle is bursting into bloom.
If you’ve been out and about recently, you may have noticed just how much colour is appearing across town.
The former bonfire site at the Playing Fields is now alive with vibrant wildflowers, providing a feast for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The wildflower areas around the tennis courts are looking equally colourful, showing what can happen when we give nature a helping hand.
We’re also delighted to see the new Physic Garden at Bishop’s Castle Medical Practice flourishing. Planted with a beautiful selection of medicinal herbs and flowers, it’s a wonderful space for both people and wildlife.
A huge thank you goes to Alice and Ted Waldron, who designed and planted the garden, and to Adrian Penney, whose regular watering has helped everything establish so well during the dry weather.
These plants don’t just look beautiful – they provide vital nectar and pollen for insects while showcasing the long history of plants used for health and wellbeing.
Every wildflower patch, every pollinator-friendly border and every helping hand is making Bishop’s Castle a greener, richer place for wildlife and our community.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved. Here’s to an even more colourful summer!
We also try to help encourage wildlife. For instance, insects have declined by 75% in the past 50 years, our work is fighting this decline.
