On Saturday the 28th May Lightfoot and South Shropshire Climate Action joined with many others at the Next Generation Fair at the Discovery Centre, Craven Arms. We laid on games and activities for young people and families. It was a beautiful May day on the meadows, many people came for the whole day with picnics and walks to the river.
Our activities included Toni Pettitt’s exploration of feathers, trees, lichens and bones, which was an exploration of local wildlife objects with a competitive element. This builds on work at Bishop’s Castle Community College with Toni.
Angela Martin enabled an art area to encourage children to draw and paint nature. She also showed families Lightfoot’s Energy Diary, which she illustrated. Lorraine’s first outing of Climate Snakes & Ladders was a great success, as well as the Carbon Quiz.
Tom and Giselle Wall were there with their games, including a ‘Wordle’ based on 5 letter climate-themed words, as well as his ‘Catch the Rat’ and critical temperature rise Hoopla games. Dave Thomlinson had a stand illustrating how Tools for Self-Reliance enables well-made tools to reach rural regions in Africa. Alison and Helen helped make it all happen.
There were other Climate-focussed events and stalls from Zero Carbon Shropshire and Stretton Climate Care. There were plant stalls, clothes stalls, a bouncy castle, a climbing wall and a stage with music and dancing; a well-attended and interesting free event, directed at families.
