The Green Fair was a busy and successful event on a sunny Sunday in Ludlow in July. Lightfoot and South Shropshire Climate Action shared a stand, next to the Marches Energy Agency. Activities included drawing with Angela Martin, Lorraine’s Carbon Quiz and Climate Snakes and Ladders, and lots of questions to Jeremy Thorp about homes and energy, as well as signing up those who wanted Home Energy Surveys. The Lightfoot Energy Diary was there for children and their families. Trice Astill’s Green Spaces of Ludlow leaflet was launched, designed for people to walk to and experience the special wild places in the town. The SSCA report was available and stimulated much interest.
Jane Cullen organised Q and A sessions throughout the day in a covered space, with straw bales for seating close to our stall. Lightfoot people participated in this, chairing sessions. Specialist speakers were invited including Manda Scott on Sustainable Money, Jeremy Thorp ‘Buildings and Energy’, and speakers on sustainable travelling, food and gardening.
The market square was busy with many stalls; some campaigning groups, some selling plants and other simply selling their sustainable wares. There was a stage with music and performance at the Castle end of the square, and a ‘speakers corner’ where people could say why they were there and invite interaction with the participants.
