Home Energy Audits for Shropshire and Powys

Our HES (Household Energy Service) has had a productive year with grants from the Community Renewal Fund in Powys, and the Shropshire and Telford Community Energy, to deliver 50 subsidised surveys in Powys and 25 subsidised surveys in Shropshire. In both cases, we offered the survey for a cost of £35 to the householder, with the balance being made up from the grant, but we are also able to waive this householder contribution for those on low income. As part of this increase in activity, we have also undertaken a revision of the advice we provide, updating the information we provide on solid wall insulation in line with the latest recommendations from Historic England, and revising and adding other sections for instance on ventilation and resetting  boiler flow temperatures. 
We are also about to undertake 8 surveys on behalf of the Future Ready Homes project, which is a project led by Marches Energy and in which we are a partner, which is funded by the EST REDRESS fund and is looking at encouraging domestic retrofit across Shropshire, Powys and Herefordshire, and is looking at comparing various different ways of delivering domestic retrofit advice.

Although our reports will be subsidised, we will retain a nominal price of £35 for able-to-pay households for this advice to ensure that households that come forward and request the service will value the advice given. We believe that impartial energy advice should be available to every householder whatever their means, so have the discretion to waive this fee for less able to pay households.

To request a survey, please register your details here and we will contact you. We will give preference to households that have not already had a HES survey previously, and it will also depend on whether we have a volunteer close to your home.

A call for volunteers

We are always looking to recruit new volunteers, and if you would like to offer your services as a volunteer we would love to hear from you. We provide full training, and the role of a volunteer is to visit householders that have requested a survey, to collect information to pass back to our staff so that they can write a bespoke report.
