Havens in storms: climate adaptation for ourselves and our communities
Hereford, Saturday 15th October
There are still a few places available for this event – an exploratory workshop space, inviting both individuals, and representatives of communities and organisations across Herefordshire, to grow their capacities to adapt to the major disruptions ahead of us. We aim to explore some of the emotional, spiritual and practical development and nourishment that may be needed by us as individuals and by our communities as we seek to adapt. We will draw on Deep Adaptation and The Work That Reconnects, and will explore how loving presence, resource and skill sharing, and other approaches can build an infrastructure of adaptation for local communities in the next few years.
Facilitated by Kate Gathercole, Alan Heeks and Kristina Jamieson. All three have been working on personal and community resilience for many years. Kate is known locally through New Leaf & Herefordshire Green Network, and is experienced in therapeutic and community facilitation and group work. Alan has been working with Deep Adaptation since 2018, as well as with a number of locally focused projects in Dorset (for more details Click here).
Kristina has facilitated and supported Transition Town groups and Extinction Rebellion Marches, drawing on her experience of work with patients and carer communities.

Presteigne, Saturday 5th November, 10.00 am – 4.30 pm, Assembly Rooms – part of the Wings of Change Festival on living with joy and sorrow and embracing changeAn Active Hope workshop facilitated by Karen Scott
In these turbulent times, we face extreme global realities that can be difficult and painful to cope with and far from easy to respond to positively.
This workshop offers strengthening practices, supporting our capacity to cope with our global predicament and find our best responses to it.
It draws on the foundations of the Work That Reconnects, developed over four decades of activism by eco-philosopher and systems theorist Joanna Macy.
Active Hope is a set of practices that can be easily learned, supporting us in playing our own unique role in bringing about the brighter future we’re longing for.
Active Hope is not about having hope, or being optimistic, which might be considered naive, given the troubled world we’re living in. Instead, Active Hope is found in what we do and what motivates us – rather than being a quality that we either do or don’t have.Suggested donation £15
